South-South Global Thinkers Network facilitates the sharing of knowledge, expertise, and perspectives from the Global South to inform policy dialogues. Its research agenda focuses on the opportunities and challenges of scaling-up South-South and Triangular Cooperation for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The network welcomes its new members: 1) The South Centre (SC) and 2) The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).
The South Centre is the intergovernmental organization of developing countries that helps developing countries to combine their efforts and expertise to promote their common interests in the international arena. The South Centre undertakes research and analysis oriented on various international policy areas that are relevant to the protection and promotion of the development interests of developing countries. The South Centre helps the countries of the South to develop common points of view and to work together on major international development-related policy issues.
Within the limits of its capacity and mandate, the South Centre also responds to requests for policy advice and for technical and other support from collective entities of the South such as the Group of 77 (G-77) and China. The South Centre has an Observer Status in several international organizations.
The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) is the premier academic organization and comprehensive research center of the People’s Republic of China in the fields of philosophy and social sciences. CASS comprises of 41 research institutes and 179 research centers across 300 sub-disciplines, which carry out research activities covering nearly all sub-disciplines. CASS has established a constructive relationship with over 200 research organizations, academic communities, institutions of higher learning, foundations and related government departments, covering more than 80 countries and regions.
A network of global think tanks, with majority of them coming from the global South, on the theme “Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development”, chaired by CASS, have joined the South-South Global Thinkers. This network of think tanks will provide a platform to enable joint research and knowledge sharing that aim to inform policy dialogues and agenda setting on South-South Cooperation on poverty eradication and sustainable development, and increase the visibility of the research community of the South in international development.
