On May 31, a workshop entitled “A New Era for South-South Cooperation: The Road to the 40th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Buenos Aires Plan of Action (BAPA+40)” took place in Beijing, China.

The workshop was organized by the China Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD) with support from the Finance Center for South-South Cooperation (FCSSC) and the China Institute for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture (CISSCA).

More than 30 international and Chinese representatives from think tanks, research institutes, and the Ministries of Commerce and Foreign Affairs participated in the workshop.

Participants exchanged their views on South-South cooperation definitions and comparative advantages; the respective roles of South-South cooperation South-North Cooperation and triangular cooperation in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals; the linkages between the “Belt and Road Initiative” and South-South cooperation; as well as opportunities and challenges for South-South cooperation in the New Era, particularly the BAPA+40 conference.

A workshop report will be developed to inform policy makers in preparation of China’s position at the BAPA+40 conference.
