Initiated by the Institute of New Structural Economics (INSE) at Peking University, with support from the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Africa Center for Economic Transformation (ACET), the Global Research Consortium on Economic Structural Transformation (GReCEST) aspires to foster intellectual partnerships and promote original thinking and innovative practice in an effort to help developing countries to achieve economic structural transformation.
The GReCEST serves as one of the priority areas under the umbrella of the Global Coalition of Think Tank Network for South-South Cooperation co-convened by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC). The GReCEST has 33 founding members from all over the world, with the Secretariat housed at the INSE at Peking University.
The launch event of the GReCEST was held in the headquarters of the United Nations in New York on 18 May 2016. The inaugural conference of the GReCEST was held at Peking University in Beijing on 13 and 14 December 2016. More than 100 researchers, practitioners and policy makers from research institutes, think tanks, international organizations and development agencies, foreign embassies in Beijing, as well as the Chinese government attended the conference.
