About the Programme
The South-South Cooperation (SSC) is assuming far greater importance than ever before as the Global South is seriously affected by a multitude of global crises. The unprecedented havoc caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, exacerbating threats of climate change, geopolitical tensions, disruptions of global supply chains, and inflation, particularly rising prices of food and fuels, etc are serious challenges to the entire global community. The economies of the Southern countries are more affected by these challenges. All the southern developing countries are, therefore, looking for affordable and sustainable solutions to these unprecedented challenges.
In the past, the efforts of Southern economies to harness and optimize the potential of their comparative strength have led to the emergence of several important platforms. It is also important to note that substantial attention was paid to discussions on SSC including intensified inter-governmental dialogue on SSC at the United Nations, the Second High-Level United Nations Conference on SouthSouth Cooperation (BAPA+40) reaffirming a larger role for SSC. SSC takes different forms and modalities for extending assistance to partner countries. They include technical assistance, capacity-building programmes, knowledge sharing, production cooperation, financial assistance and technology transfer. The SSC is often perceived by the partner countries to be more receptive and adapted to their needs and priorities. Solidarity among peoples and countries of the Global South is the hallmark of SSC. The SSC practices also contribute to the well-being, and national and collective self-reliance of Southern countries as well as the attainment of internationally agreed development goals, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The ITEC course on Development Partnerships: Learning South-South Cooperation is intended to familiarise the participants to the broader concept of SSC particularly its Development Compact in the context of current global challenges, and specific challenges faced by Southern countries and recent in trends in development cooperation. The programme would, among other things, focus on the rationale, concepts and contours of SSC by building on their accomplishments and dealing with barriers to their collective engagement. It would also share insights on its key principles, policies, and modalities, including national sovereignty and ownership, economic independence, self-reliance, equality, nonconditionality, non-interference and mutual benefit, and practices that are evident across Global South.
Work & Experience
Experience in diplomatic assignments/ Aid Management/ South-South Cooperation (SSC)/ North-South Cooperation (NSC). Junior and Middle level officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs/Finance/ Commerce or other Ministries dealing with SSC/NSC, Civil Society representatives engaged in related issues/Research Institutes
